Target Tuesdays: Clever Khakis and Creamy Cardigans

Hello my fashion conscious fashionistas! Today's Target Tuesday outfit is relaxed and low-key. Ever have those days when you want to be comfortable but don't have the option to just throw anything on? I was kind of feeling this way when I chose my Target Tuesday outfit. I love neutrals because of their sheer versatility and the fact that it never screams overkill or too glam on the days when I just feel like taking it easy for the day. It's still appropriate enough for work without feeling stuffy or restrained.

The metallic sequins that are woven into this knit cardigan adds a really nice texture to the fabric and off sets the gold within the necklace to pull this classic low key look together. Not to mention the cardigan is a nice layering piece for an already cool outfit. The coin necklace ties the entire look together so that you can still  feel relaxed while looking polished and professional at the sametime. I have to say that this heather grey and oatmeal tee blend not only fits and feels good, but I love how the sleeves are actually long! Too many of my t-shirts are barely covering my shoulder with the 2 inches of fabric that they call a sleeve! I'm thinking about investing in some more of these tees in different colours.

cardigan: Merona Collection, $32.99
khakis: Mossimo, $24.99
tee: Mossimo, $9.99
necklace: $12.99
belt: $12.99

v-Style: Rosie Huntington

A few months ago I started to do a series entitled v-Style (short for "virtual style") in order to create dream looks for artists and celebrities that I would love to dress for an event if given the chance to be their stylist for the day! Clearly these looks would be left to my imagination to conjure up without any budget limitations. Break out the black card. Check out my first v-Style I did on JessieJ here.

Today I chose to v-Style Rosie Huntington because I was reminded of how stunning she was when I went to go see Transformers 3 last week (which was amazing!) I was a little disappointed that Megan Fox was being replaced but I quickly got over it when I saw Rosie's cute outfits in the movie and saw how curvy she is (did anyone else notice that she wore white throughout the entire movie?). Either way, I completely have a new found respect for her since she's been able to be a successful model while looking completely healthy and curvy (she talks about her weight being an "issue" in one of the magazines I read this week and how she coped in the modeling industry).

Below is the outfit that I put together for the model turned actress that would go perfectly with her figure. It's proper, cute, and classy just like Brits are always known to be.

Target Tuesdays: Neo-Navajo & Colored Denim Trend

Today is a new beginning here at PhysicalCanvas for Target Tuesdays! I am extremely excited to share with you my latest finds from Target for today's outfit. As many of you already know, every Tuesday I style and accessorize an outfit in mind specifically for the chic and all knowing budget-istas of the world. Ok, world may be an exaggeration but one day! My first Target Tuesdays post can be found here to learn more about this personal style challenge that I started.

I initially thought of the idea months ago after shopping at Target and realizing that there wasn't anything visually to inspire me to buy the merchandise besides the advertising signage on the front racks for each brand. Typically, not many people get inspired from clothes merely dangling on a hanger. No one! But with my Visual Display experience behind me, I noticed the lack of three main elements: visual displays, set-ups, and mannequins- all of which are key components in influencing a customer to drive SALES! [Who doesn't look at the mannequins in a store? Trust me, someone does or else I wouldn't have experienced my nicely dressed mannequins disheveled by a customer trying to get the last x-small romper!] As soon as I caught wind of the fact that many women were passing by the same racks of clothes that I was and that I received a lot of compliments on my Target finds, I had to give Target Tuesdays a try and so far people have really liked the idea. Ok, fast forward to this outfit.....

Last week I was reading Elle Magazine and saw a page that caught my eye entitled "Neo-Native" which illustrated a great assortment of fabrics, feathers, and prints inspired by the Navajo culture. My heart fluttered like a butterfly when I saw the Proenza Schouler ensemble but quickly sank and got trapped behind my rib cage when I realized that I so can't afford it! Unless I wanted to be chic and homeless (not an option). Clearly, a lack of funds paired with desire, will drive any fashionista to do what we do best-improvise. So I was inspired to create an interpretation of my own native look by going to Target and selecting my very own affordable look. I love how I layered the tank tops to add an abundance of colour while pairing it with a statement necklace and belt. If it hasn't showed up in your twitter time line by now, coloured denim is trending right now (!) along with Fall 2011's Native-American inspired clothing trend. Creating this outfit is like knocking out two trends with one budget! Two Trends+ One Budget= Winning.

Shorts: $17.99
Necklace: $19.99
Mossimo Tank: $9.00
Foxtail keychain: $12.99

Target Tuesdays: Bikini Time!

There probably isn't a particular item that I purchase more often during one season than a bathing suit! Ever since retail companies started selling bathing suit separates in similar colours and shapes, it's becoming more and more easier (and affordable!) to buy multiple separates to mix and match. Plus its safe to say that not all girls are the same size top and bottom, and if you get bored of one suit you can pair a solid colour bandeau top with a printed bottom (another incentive to wear a two piece). Do you remember when bathing suits use to be so expensive? Maybe its just me, but I remember bathing suits being quite expensive and if I ever bought one that was it for the summer-one and done.

So yesterday while I was in Target, I realized that I hadn't purchased a bathing suit since I went on my cruise earlier this year and fell in love with their bathing suits all over again. I love Target's selection of bathing suits because they are consistent with their styles and sizes. So for example, if I love the cut and fit of a bathing suit like the one above, I just pick up a small handful in different colours to mix and match! They're so easily interchangeable and affordable that I can't pass it up. As a rule of thumb for me, I like to pair up my cool tone bathing suit separates like the blues, greens, and aquas, with each other and then buy the warm colours together like the pinks, neon oranges, and yellows with each other.

Bandaeu top: $17.99
Bottom: $17.99
Shades: $12.99

I plan to post more bathing suit pics from Target as the summer goes on but in the meantime what colour bathing suits do you plan on wearing this summer?

Scenes of a Stylist: Photo shoot with Julia

Now to update you on my latest project...

A few weeks ago, I styled a photo shoot of a girl that I met at party a few months ago that had the cutest sweetheart shaped red dress and cropped haircut. I love girls with well maintained short hair-I believe it is the perfect frame for a beautiful face.

A few months passed after I was able to reconnect with Julia and we finally did a shoot based on her life experiences with a bit of added flare from my style suggestions. When she mentioned that she spent some time in France, I immediately drew inspiration from the Parisian girls that I longed to visit in the streets of the romantic city. Lucas, as my sensible photographer and visionary, suggested to style her as an edgy Parisian, roaming the gritty streets beneath the shadows of sketchy alleys and unprotected underpasses showered in graffiti. The results were simply amazing.

Real life portraits are just as inspiring to work on as high-end fashion shoots due to their connection with the camera from previous life experiences. The surroundings, feelings, and memories of previous occurrences all captured between the milliseconds of each snapshot of a given frame. For a girl without any previous modeling experience, Julia was not only a pleasure to work with but a natural, as she interpreted our Parisian concept to life through her memories of France during her years as a translator. As the stylist, all of the running around was truly worth it. Finding the beauty in people who tell a story is inspiring in itself. I look forward to meeting additional people in life to discover ways to bring their journey into the camera's focal point for others to view.

Meet Julia
“I remember a lot of late night walks home after being out, putting on my iPod and looking up at the stars while heading home after an evening of good food, good drinks, and good friends. Any piece of art by Rodin immediately takes my mind to Paris; the Rodin Museum there is something I visit every single time I go to Paris because his sculptures are so beautiful, especially "Fugit Amor" which means "Fugitive Love." The thought of walking down the street past a bakery and smelling the freshly baked bread will always make my mouth water!”

"A reminder of the nightlife for me would definitely be the smell of cigarette smoke in the air. I can remember standing outside the club, trying to cool off, smoking a cigarette and hearing the music blasting from the inside and the thump of the bass.  Listening to the song "1901" by the band Phoenix will always remind me of this guy I really liked when I was living abroad, it was a song we both really liked, so every time I hear it, I imagine I'm back there in the bar with him listening to it on the radio."
"As far as a French saying goes, what immediately comes to mind is "En art comme amour, l'instinct suffit" which means "Whether it is in art or in love, your instinct will suffice" because when it comes to living abroad, you depend a lot on your instincts!"

Special thanks to Lucas for taking the pictures and post-editing work as well as Megan for doing the make-up!

Happy Anniversary

Talk about falling off the face of the blogosphere! I'm back! I definitely took a longer vacation than I anticipated from the holiday weekend. I think it was because I was out of town and disconnected from my phone, twitter, facebook, and other social media outlets (I don't believe in roaming, I'll just watch the news like regular people to keep up with what's going on in the world. lol)  I went to Toronto this past weekend to celebrate Canada and made it back in time to bask in the glory of the 4th of July.I'll post pictures soon. In other news, today is my 3 year anniversary-time flies when you're having fun! I still can't believe my mom made this train. awesome! The picture above was taken in my house after I got the mannequin from work. Perfect! [^_^]

I have a lot of exciting things to share so stay tuned!

(this photo looks so fake, especially since its low res but I swear its real.lol!)
