I hate to choose between two, but my absolute fav is the spread in W mag because her personality plays up to the clothes that she is wearing and her alter ego shines through as an artist and performer. Although looking at it again I really “need” those Gareth Pugh pants by the near the flames in the Dazed shoot. Shoot, this is hard!

Target Tuesdays: Music Mania

It's Target Tuesday!! And what's more exciting than fashion except celebrities that wear beautiful clothes with great vocal skills! Today for Target Tuesday I decided to feature Beyonce since she is releasing her deluxe editon of her new album “4″ exclusively at Target today! The female solist is also featured in Target's new commercial which gives a sneak peek into what the singer did on her year-long hiatus, before stepping back into the spotlight. Images of her traveling pop up throughout the 31 second clip as she speaks to the viewers:“It’s hard to see when you move so fast, so I left the stage and I joined the audience. I didn’t perform, I observed. And what I saw inspired me, and now I’m ready to step back into the light. I put so much into my new album and only Target gives you all of it.”

Very cool. Kudos to Target for selling her album exclusively and for the commercial that highlights her travels during her time away. Click here to purchase her album along with 6 bonus tracks and an exclusive video.

Check out the Target Commercial below

Who's buying her album??

Before I forget! Have you seen her spread in W magazine or in Dazed? *gasps!* what do you mean no! Ok, I'll be posting the pics shortly to see which spread is your favourite!

Target Tuesdays: The Perfect Maxi Dress

It’s Target Tuesday and I am so excited to share with you my new finds!  As those of you already know, every Tuesday I do a chic outfit for less from Target which has always been known for their trendy must have items, and this outfit is no different from the rest. Normally, my Target Tuesday posts are very happy go lucky, but today’s outfit is bad to the bone! Who could pass up the ever so perfect striped maxi dress for the summer? I adore the classic black and white stripes that give this outfit a hard edge and cool appeal. It’s easy enough to throw on while piling a few accessories on the way out the door to a summer concert or BBQ. But since this maxi is already pretty busy with the horizontal stripes, I down played it with minimal accessories and added a pink lip for a punch of colour. My favourite thing about a maxi is that it makes anyone look long lean and flawlessly flaunts your curves. Don’t you agree?! For some reason I feel like hopping on the back of a motorcycle with the wind messing up my hair as the aviators shield the sun glare. Then again the dress may not be practical, but the look is definitely there.J

What colour maxi will you be sporting this summer?
I love these aviators! I bought them from Target earlier this year for my cruise and they're still in great condition.
Get the Look:
Dress $24.99
*Lipstick $5.54*
Sunglasses $10.99
Rocker Attitude: Priceless!

*I used  N.Y.C New York Color lipstick but here is a comparable one

Cute Tribal Dress

It's Friday!!! And although I hate to think that I merely live for the one day leading up to the weekend its pitifully true. I almost forgot that I took a quick shot of this dress after my photo shoot last week (read the post here to see behind the scenes of the shoot). I was captured a few times in this outfit but the back was only showing and I wanted to do the outfit justice. I love cute dresses with pockets because it allows me to keep my key items close by: lipgloss and cell which I never leave home without. I remember buying this bag from a small store in Soho-it almost feels like burlap but it has a great woven design in the fabric. I actually remember that night since it was right before my cousin accepted the gig as Beyonce' wardrobe styist. Or maybe that was after and he was home visiting...I really should've kept a diary, I have a horrible memory! Man I miss those days. Why didn't I blog back then? I ask myself that question every day! I would have so many great adventures to look back on. Well, one thing I do know is that I'm overdue to visit the rotten apple. the wheels in my head are turning now at the thought of it....

Have a good weekend and stay fly!

Scenes of a Stylist

Last Sunday I finally had a chance to link up with my sister, Shana, to style and direct a way overdue photo shoot for her portfolio (I use to work backstage during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, collaborate with different designers, and freelance when I was in NYC so I'm  pretty use to doing a shoot on short notice...I should write more about experiences one day...ok getting back to the shoot!). She's asked me so many times but it seems as though our schedules always conflict. So when she asked me a few weeks ago I just had to drop everything and just do it! And how could I say no, she's the perfect muse!

Here are some behind the scene pics leading up to the shoot:

Shana expressed her love for turbans and how she wanted to incorporate it into her vision of a clean editorial shoot with a heavy focus on the head piece. So we immediately went through my storage bins of fabric to fit her idea and found this cute pink and gold speckled fabric that I tied into a coil knotted turban. The warm pink colour went great with her skin tone and hair for a beautiful summer day. My hubby Lucas has recently taken his love for photography to the next level after just 3 months of having his camera and captured some great pictures on the sunny afternoon. We had a really good time during the shoot and as the perfectionist that I am, I was there to yell out stop, hold on, wait a minute every time I saw something out of place and put on my best Tyra Banks impersonation. FIERCE.  Here are some of my favorite shots from the shoot. The post production that Lucas did is sick! I love the effects that he applied to the pics. Bravo sweetie, bravo!

Check out Shana's site (She goes by Chiney Marie as a homage to our Chinese and Jamaican grandmother) and Lucas' website Lightbearer Photography. His site is under construction but he's been taking gigs through the form on the site. He'll have his latest projects posted soon, so bookmark both sites before you forget!

Anyone doing any upcoming projects that they'd like to share?

Target Tuesdays: A Day in the Rain...Rainboots, Raincoats, & Rainbows

Anyone who says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain!
I don’t know what the weather is doing in your region of the world, but the sun is playing hide-and-go seek in my backyard and I can’t tell if we’re inching towards summer or reverting back to April showers all over again. Clearly the April showers have overstayed its welcome! Despite the sun playing a dreadful game of peek-a-boo behind the clouds, people still have to wear clothes to keep dry and cool for the days when summer decides to show up (last week was in the 90s and today it’s in the 60s, go figure). So naturally this brings me to Target Tuesdays’ style suggestion for this icky type of weather.
If you’re a new follower you will see a string of posts entitled Target Tuesdays which initially started as a personal style challenge to create various looks on a budget from Target; known for its fashion forward trends. Since then I’ve gotten great reviews and I’ve been encouraged to continue posting looks from the retailer. Take a look at my first Target Tuesday here which goes into greater details about high end fashion on a low end budget. Ok enough about the background story, let’s talk about today’s outfit.
Today’s Target Tuesday outfit is all about having fun with your clothes and combating the weather. Where I live, (home of the infamous Kodak) we always say if you don’t like the weather, just wait 5 minutes. We’ve experienced all four seasons in one day plenty of times and rarely get consistent sunny days. I know, crazy.
But since rain has been in the forecast for quite some time, I decided to turn this lilac rain coat into a make-shift dress and layer it over a cute tank and shorts. It’s almost like a form over function type of deal- the rain coat keep my clothes from getting wet without having to carry an extra set of summer clothes, but doubles as a cute jacket until the sun comes out and its no longer needed.

I think these rain boots are going to be my new version of summer Uggs  (not that I wore them to begin with but you know what I mean). They look so cute with shorts and are both  pretty and practical. I can keep my feet dry and avoid destroying my pricey shoes with mud and water while still remaining stylish and playful.

Available at Target:
Graphic Tank: $12.99
Lilac Coat: $29.99
Shorts: $19.99

Sweet Anticipation

Hello my beautiful followers! I was looking through the pictures on my hard drive and realized that I neglected to post these pictures. As I was looking through them, I realized that there seemed to be a theme of "waiting and anticipating" (which was purely accidental...except for the bus stop picture which just seemed like a cool idea when I saw the bus approaching.lol)

But for some reason, I love the feeling of anticipation whether its anticipating my next vacation, the weekend, a new side gig, or even the anticipation of the next big thing for this blog. To me, anticipation is the motivating force in everyday life...there's always something to look forward to...a new goal to reach, a new challenge to conquer. It must be the dreamer in me that cultivates this wild imagination and the fact that I always have this longing to know the future and how it will play out. Sounds funny I guess, but there's something about the anticipation of the future that gets me all giddy inside. I can't wait to see what God has destined in my life and yours. What are you anticipating?

By the way I love this outfit...it's a great way to sport a turban with an executive look. Always have fun with your clothes and take chances! So continue to stop by and don't forget to say hello from time to time ;D

PS: I am excited about my first feature that I've been working on which should be up soon. It's about the success of my friend's modeling career and how she views the fashion industry so stay tuned!

The CFDA Awards (Council of Fashion Designer of America) was held on Monday and the outfits ranged from outlandish to ohlala I like! Lady Gaga took home the Fashion Icon Award while Marc Jacobs accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award. I just like skipping over the politics and going straight to the red carpet (or in this case purple carpet) pics.

Jessica Alba in Diane von Furstenberg

 Kerry Washington in Calvin Klein

 Kirsten Dunst in Patrik Ervell
