Target Tuesdays | Peter Pilotto Set

Peter Pilotto Look #1

Hello My Little Targettes!

It's..... T A R G E T | T U E S D A Y S

With nearly 70 printed pieces from the latest Target debut, Peter Pilotto for Target was made for this girl right here! Yes, the entire collection is nothing short of genius as seen on the website of Target last week after the released of their look book. After reviewing the looks, I couldn't help but realize how spot on I was in my October post What to Expect from Peter Pilotto for Target. Of course, the ever so idiosyncratic printed dresses, florals, cover ups, knits and tailored pencil skirts galore proved to be in abundance. BOOM...I'll take three of each please and thank you.

Of course you know, I'll be all over this collection as I was for Target's collaborations with Phillip Lim, Missoni, and Jason Wu. hate to break it you but I'm no newbie to Target's collabs-nope not one bit. Out of all of the collaborations I can definitely say with confidence that this is the line that best represents my style due to the playful use of colour and architectural prints. In today's post, I decided to create a look for each week until the release on February 9th! I'm definitely conjuring all sorts of outfits now by the minute.
The Entire Peter Pilotto For Target Lookbook Is Out!
This colour-blocked blazer is a cool blue just waiting for me to pair with a pencil slim skirt. I paired a few favorites from my wishlist of items that in a oh-so-glamorous perfect world.

Keep your eyes peeled for my next Peter Pilotto for Target looks as we count down the days together until February 9th!

Target Tuesdays: Crush on Blush

IMG_3764
Hello My Little Targettes!

It's..... T A R G E T | T U E S D A Y S

Pinks and berries are all the rage this fall season even while temperatures continue to plunge lower than today's silky neckline. Typically reserved for summer, warmer colours have been making a chilling statement with this ultra feminine shade.

So it's no surprise that Target has a case of Crush on Blush fever lately with it's amazing pieces. I combined these feminine separates for a tailored suit look which could easily transition from the desk to dinner at any point of the day.

Dipped in rose-gold, the zipper hardware accents this satin blush blouse perfectly while the tweed blazer provides structure for the right amount of edginess for the workplace. The below the hip blazer is also fully lined and is quite warm in the breezier months when you're on the fence about wearing an outer coat to an event (I have a bad habit of always leaving my coat in the car!).

The black and gray pattern motif gives this skirt a floral illusion framed with a pink ribbon detail. I love the contrast against the black tights! The subtle shading of the greys and black intensify the prominent blush trend throughout the look {^_^}.

Target Tuesdays | Peter Pilotto for Target | What to Expect

Hello My Little Targettes!

It's..... T A R G E T | T U E S D A Y S

Ever since the designer duo for Peter Pilotto broke the news about their upcoming collaboration for Target during London Fashion week, I couldn't help but do the following: 1). day dream about being their fit model 2). day dream about being their fit model and last but not least 3). day dream about being their fit model! Ok, seriously! I can imagine myself being the annoying bee in the showroom, flying style boards to rolling around in the luxurious floral printed fabrics just to get a glimpse of the behind the scenes creative process for Target's latest collaboration don't judge me.

Alas, breaking away from my imaginable day dreaming, I decided to really look into what we (as Targettes, Targetistas and Targetistos stake your claim who ever you are) should expect from the wonder boys of Peter Pilotto for Target! Now I'm certainly not a mind reader, nor do I have an inside scoop but I do have a premonition or two of what will be hitting the racks on February 9th!

Dresses:
After announcing their collaboration last month, Target revealed that the Peter Pilotto line will feature nearly 70 items from flirty frocks to skirts. Known for their striking red carpet looks worn by Kerry Washington, Kristen Stewart and many others, it’s more than likely that the duo will incorporate their brightly colored dresses for the everyday women running to the office or a summer festival. A cotton version of their signature dresses would provide comfort, shape and balance for those looking to sport the colourful frocks.

Shorts:
For their 2013 resort collection, the Peter Pilotto line featured an item that I could always use a little more of in my summer wardrobe… printed shorts, with pockets! I have a few printed shorts that I absolutely love, but to be honest it is quite difficult to find shorts that are not denim that can be paired with stiletto heel for a more refined look. I’m hoping that the duo will be brave enough to create a pair of shorts for those of us more willing to take a fashion risk.

Scarves:
In the past, the darling designers have mentioned their fascination of nature, embodying a sense of surrealism in their patterned designs. I’m hoping that the reoccurring prints will spill over into their bags, clutches, and wristlets. There's nothing more versatile than pairing floral motifs, embroideries and abstract prints into a summer collection. Wishful thinking, I know, but a girl can dream… {^_^}

Target Tuesdays | Phillip Lim for Target | Styling Tips: Part 3

IMG_3560A teaser
Hello My Little Targettes!

It's..... T A R G E T | T U E S D A Y S

I couldn't have kicked off the first of the month with a better outfit....clearly, out of the three Phillip Lim for Target Styling series, I've saved the best for last. This shirt dress embodies a few details that you may have missed in my Fab Finds post, including the tailoring and hem length all rolled into one. Ironically, I didn't see too many ladies rocking this dress on the blogosphere or in any Instagram pictures or Twitter #philliplimfortarget hashtags...my assumptions are pretty spot on as I realized that the dress is still available on the website in all five sizes here. After reading my styling tips for pairing a blazer with a dress to flatter your figure, I hope you'll re-think this cute little floral printed number.

Previous Posts:

Style Tip #1: Hemline & Shape
How adorable is this floral shirt dress?! The options are endless when layering a blazer over a dress for a seamless transition from the 9-5 meetings to an evening out, but it is important to understand the proportions when outfitting your look. Noting the length of the dress is pretty important to determine the type of blazer that will best accent the dress and your figure. The contemporary length of this dress with the flared back is pleasantly unexpected and can be pretty tricky to pair with a blazer if done incorrectly. Since the dress falls above the knee, pair a blazer which falls naturally below your waist to elongate your body and (this is super important) pair a belt with it to accentuate the waist to prevent the blazer and the dress from becoming too boxy. The combination of the blazer and the belt will add shape under the layers without loosing your figure.

Style Tip #2: All in the Sleeves
Push the sleeves above the elbow to mirror the amount of skin that is shown from your legs to create balance. In my opinion, there should always be a subtle symmetry in your wardrobe if you're splitting your body in half, from the neck to the waist and the waist to the ankle for a super sophisticated look. It's especially important since the oxford collar lays so closely to the neck leaving little skin for a more refined look.

Style Tip #3: Detail and Colour
Choose a blazer that has a little oomph to it to play up the femininity of the dress. I love a good pleated garment whether it's a skirt, dress or blazer. The knife pleats on this navy beauty forms a smooth line which contours towards my body and then feathers outward. It's a simple detail that gives the illusion of hips when layering a form fitting dress to add more shape and curves. The navy colour unifies the entire look and neutralizes the print if you are overly concerned that floral prints and color are too much of a fashion risk for your wardrobe.

Overall, these three tips for pairing a blazer with a dress will intensify this chic silhouette for a modern yet comfortable look.

Target Tuesdays | Phillip Lim for Target | Styling Tips: Part 2

philliplim

Hello My Little Targettes!

It's..... T A R G E T | T U E S D A Y S

Is it Tuesday already?! Geesh...these days are flying by and I can barely keep up! But I am really excited about the styling tips for 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target that I promised you last week so let's jump right in!

If you missed last week, read Styling Tips |Phillip Lim for Target | Part 1

Style Tip #1: Borrow from your Boyfriend
Menswear will always prevail when you balance elements from your wardrobe with masculine pieces. The femininity of this romantic jungle green blouse is divine and pairs so nicely with a navy cropped vest, typically found under a three-piece suit. My favorite aesthetic of this blouse are the faintly bellowing sleeves and the shoulder pleats which add dimension and structure to accentuate my shoulders. The length of the blouse, the low back and high front, is a perfect complement to the boyfriend look because it follows a similar shape of a guy’s button down oxford shirt for a refined look.

Just for clarification purposes, this tip says borrow ‘FROM’ your boyfriend, not borrow ‘A’ boyfriend There’s nothing fashionable about stealing what’s not yours {^_^}.

Style Tip #2:  Mix High & Low
Gone are the days of dressing in designer threads from head to toe in order to be considered on par with other trendy fashionistas with more disposable income. Combine highty, highty, highty, highhhh designers with lowdie, lowdie, lowdie, low and affordable pieces like coupling this Burberry trench and Marc Jacob aviators with this Phillip Lim for Target circular skirt, purse and printed cardigan. As fashion lovers, there are always a few investment pieces that can be (and should be) incorporated to diversify your closet portfolio.

Style Tip #3: When in doubt, go nude!
Pair down overt colours and patterns with great neutral pieces to unify your entire wardrobe. For this look, I opted for a camel coloured trench, beige oxford shoes and nude make-up for an understated look in order for my Phillip Lim for Target purse and top to stand out on its own as a focal piece. Neutral tones also assist in enhancing a look so that your pieces aren't competing for attention against one another.

Follow these simple styling secrets to avoid being a Target Twinsie.

Next Tuesday I'll debut my last (and FAVOURITE) piece from the Phillip Lim for Target collection {^_^}.

Target Tuesdays | Phillip Lim for Target | Styling Tips: Part 1

Hello My Little Targettes!

It's..... T A R G E T | T U E S D A Y S

For those of you who are just joining me, I started the concept two years ago in April 2011 after realizing that many women wanted styling suggestions when shopping at the fashion forward retail chain. The inner visual merchandiser in me kicked the low cost concept up into high gear and it's been a hit ever since.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program...

By now you've probably already seen posts, tweets and pics of the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target collection on every corner of the blogosphere, plastered with dressing room Instagram photos and post purchase pics.

Those who scored big in the stores on Sep 15th have most likely saran wrapped their finds and are now waiting for the right time to rock their designer duds, while others are anxiously stalking the mailman for their packages like Christmas morning. Whether you're tracking your packages or snuggling your mini Pashli satchel like your newest teddy bear, there's just one thing that lingers on my mind when it comes to shopping major releases...how can I rock a new wardrobe without running into someone else that looks like a copycat?!

I mean come on, let's face it-Target is the second largest discount retailer from coast to coast and has expanded to over 100 Canadian subsidiaries. With that much coverage the odds of sitting next to a boy or gal with the same exact sweater, bag or tee *gasps* are HUGE. just pulled out my scientific calculator to do the probability calculations and it confirmed HUGE to the umteeth power. But, no worries, I've got you covered! I've put together a few styling tips to avoid those embarrassing twinsie moments by incorporating Phillip Lim for Target into your own personal wardrobe in a two-part series (sorry but there's just too much for one post! Next Tuesday I will post the remaining three outfits!).

Style Tip #1: Mix the new, with the old.
I love buying affordable threads but I rarely step out of the house from head to toe in items that I've purchased in the same store (what am I talking about, I rarely wear clothes that I purchase the same day!). When shopping, I take a mental inventory of my closet and pair it with items that I am browsing. Take the 3.1 Phillip Lim 'BOOM' pullover sweater for example. The affordable version of the KA-POW top can be mixed and matched with a few vintage pieces like this bright neon blazer and red clutch for a more tailor look.

Style Tip #2: Switch It Up
Layering a statement piece with a silk blouse underneath adds so much more to an outfit because of the peek-a-boo details of the collar in this example. Pair items of various fabrics with each other for unpredictability that will have people wanting to take a second look at your look. Dig into the details and combine different fabrics! Pair a sheer pleated skirt with a sweatshirt and a leather jacket for a bit of an edge. I mean really, can you go wrong with an MJ 'Who's Bad?' red leather jacket? the answer is noooooo. Not only does it give a totally cool look but it takes it up a notch from just a basic sweater which would typically be worn with a pant, to a more refined look to wear on a night out. Either way, both jackets highlight this comic inspired sweater. BOOM.

Style Tip #3: Don't Forget Your Basics
There's nothing more elegant than a simplified outfit consisting of black and white with pops of colour. I'm sure you know of a few black and white items in your wardrobe that you just know will go along with anything that you buy, whether its brand spanking new or hanging by a thread. For this look, I paired 3.1 Phillip Lim's peplum encrusted vest with beading along the neckline with a collared blouse to add versatility to what would have normally left me exposing my arms. Whether you decide to leave your arms bare or not, pairing it with a skirt and the cross body bag creates a timeless look, leaving your  new finds undetectable.

Style Tip #4: Simplify Your Accessories
This mayyyyyyyy sound like a no brainer but know when to bring the bling for an awesome arm party and learn how to make pieces stand out on their own. Understated pieces make the most noise just as much as the squeaky wheel. Seriously! I love piling on jewelry but when wearing basics I leave my neck, ears and wrists bare and naked to the world for a minimalist look. Use a few pieces to make a statement like these cat-eyed glasses and the cross body satchel without overdoing it or taking away from the entire look.

What are some tips that you've started to use on your new 3.1 Phillip Lim pieces?

'Till next Tuesday when Part Two of my styling tips continues for the other 3.1 Phillip Lim outfits that I snagged {^_^}.

A huge thank you to my hubster, Lucas Barber for being an awesome photographer!
