Chilean Miners and Chic Knits

I luvvv this sweater! It came all the way from Chile when my cousin helped rescue the miners who were trapped half way around the world. I luv the white and grey reindeer gradient around the chest, bell sleeves, and pocket trim. There aren't any labels in the sweater so I'm not sure what the brand is.

So here's the background story of how I received the sweater as a gift. My cousin drills in Alberta (yes we Jamaicans survive...even in the harsh winters of Alberta!) so because of their drilling expertise, he and his team were flown to Chile to help with the rescue mission. Here's a picture of the team.

Here, the crew poses with the Fenix 2- the rescue capsule that saved the 33 miners. My cousin is the second one in from the left.

The hole where it all began...

So proud of my cousin! Love You! Go Canada!

Furious in Fur

 Vest: Vintage
Thermal: Hanes
         Watch: G-shock
Skirt: Urban Behavior
Necklace: Charlotte Rouse

I was looking through my closet the other day and I just realized that I have a lot of fur throughout my wardrobe than I thought from vests, to coats, and other trimmed items-which shouldn't be a surprise since i h|a|t|e being cold! I bought this fur vest in a vintage store in Toronto a few years ago and its held up pretty well. Its nice because its reversible with quilted lining on the inside.  I pair it with everything but today I decided to pair it with a high-waist skirt and thermal. I love practical fashion!

Holiday Wrap Up

So the holidays have definitely kept me busy from doing pretty much everything. Not to mention that it's been pretty hectic at work since replacing Christmas set ups with Spring arrivals. Although I haven't posted in awhile, I made sure to take a few pictures over the holiday.

For Christmas Eve I decided to be festive and dress as a sexy elf. I think my boots are pointy enough to pull it off.

Dress: H&M
Tights: Hue
Belt: F21

I love metallics during the holidays! I wore this on Christmas morning to church and it was the first time I was really feeling the Christmas spirit.

Belt/Blouse: F21
Shoes: Monzo & Franco
Skirt: Kimora Lee Simmons
Crochet Vest, Rabbit Fur Trim: Cejon

I highlighted my eyes in this smokey bronze and silver shadow that my sister-in-law gave me for Christmas which was really cool but I didn't get too good of a pic with it. Thanks Kendra!

I've had these shoes for over 10 years now. I love pulling veteran pieces out the closet for special occasions:)
Hope everyone had a great and blessed holiday!

Pretty Pink Vintage

I made these cool mirror earrings a few years ago that I really need to start making for other people. Everytime I wear them people ask me where I got them...I'm definitely slacking on my design game *womp womp*

Denim: H&M
Purse: Vintage
Jacket: Vintage
Gloves: Vintage
Shoes: BCBGirls
Earrings: Made by me (Lisa!)

Ok so I promise this is the last of the "oops I forgot to download these pics from my camera" series. My SD card was in serious need of freeing up space and I have events on there from earlier this year just waiting to be uploaded into mainstream media. As for the outfit, I have the matching skirt to this jacket but I decided to pair it with a slim pair of denim jeans to update the wardrobe all together.

I've always loved my mother's vintage clothing even before it was dated as such. I remember begging her, (and mom this is the last time you'll hear me say this! promise!) begging her not to donate or throw away any of her clothing. I don't think she realized at the time that this 10-year old would really grow to L O V E her most coveted things as much as she did. Her closets (yes, plural) were decorated with floor length white furs, high-waist blue leather pants, one piece jump suits, structured jackets, authentic patent leather belts with gold clasps, and sequins were always in abundance! Her clothes always told a story of years passed and left memories in the photo albums that now come to life.

The next time I go home I will have to scan some of these pictures when once upon a time my mother was a model before she was a mommie.

As a true fashionista to this day she still embodies the definition of style and will always remain my style icon and life mentor....

Love you madam;D

Weekend Wrap Up

Dress: Alfani
Turtleneck:Vixen
Shoes: Oh...Deer!

I love the holidays! There seems to be so much going on when the weekend comes and this past weekend was no exception. I went to a surprise party this weekend for my sister and a holiday party for my sweetheart's job. I didn't take pics of what I wore to the surprise party but I got a few shots of the Christmas party. I paired a light-weight mock turtleneck under the dress to add a sleeker look and to keep warm since even a chill in a room makes me really uncomfortable. I love this peep toe t-strap shoe. You can't really tell from the pic, but its a great combination of patent leather and braided canvas on the heel and platform. Here's the outfit before I changed into my sweats and made my hot chocolate!

New Year's Resolutions into Habits

Research shows that it takes 21-days to create a habit. That's 21-days of incorporating more vegetables into your diet...21-days of consistently going to the gym when all else fails... 21-days to dedicate more free time to develop your passion which you've neglected and let fall by the way side.

No I didn't just take a psych class. I'm prepping myself for all of the Facebook and Twitter updates of everyone's resolution for 2011. But why put it off until January 1st? Because we want the pleasure of knowing that we'll get to it eventually. I know I'm six days too late (for all those sarcastic folks triple checking their calendars *womp womp*), but its not too late to start creating good habits before the aftertaste of 2010 leaves us forever....

My goal is to turn my New Year's Resolution[s] into a habit- not a wish on a whim that will fade as quickly as the memories of a tipsy party-goer on December 31st  but into something that will help me develop my own character so that I can look back and see growth and accomplishments.

My theme for 2011 is "Execute and Follow Through". Seems simple, right? It is and if I use it I will have accomplished more resolutions than I could ever list. So I will keep you posted on my new habits. Let's see how this goes!

What's your habit for 2011?!

Diamond [Details] in the Rough

Leather Blouse: Vintage
Dress: Urban Behavior
Clutch: Vintage
Boots: Twisted
Scarf: Vintage
Belt: Vintage
Tights: Hue

Subtle details in an outfit are very important to me. The less obvious accents really show through without matching every item in your wardrobe from head to toe to make a statement (unless monochromatic is the look that you're going for). I luv the diamond details in the tights and the diamond-shaped fur clutch really turn it up a notch. I have a lot of party dresses but I rarely ever go out anymore so I layered this strapless dress under a leather blouse that I found a few summers ago to make it look less formal. The dress even has pockets which is perfect for my lip gloss and cell. I luv the belt because it really brings everything together into a cohesive assemble. It's also a quick fix to tighten up any bulky fabric around your waist without having to take in the sides with a sewing machine. And the scarf?! It goes with everything!

Pretty in Pastels

Shoes: BCBGirls
Blouse: Vintage
Purse: Vintage
Skirt: Vintage

This outfit is very feminine and soft. I found this skirt a few years ago at a consignment shop and later saw the same one in off-white in Banana Republic a few seasons later for more than quadruple the price! Plus I like pleated skirts :) I love this beaded purse because it converts easily from a strappy purse to an evening clutch when you tuck the chain on the inside.

Vintage Finds

I love a good find! I checked out this new thrift store not too far from my house on Friday and it was everything that I had hoped for. The items were well taken care of and easy to find which is a plus since I'm always scouring racks with a vengeance to find the items that are right just for me. And I did.

This yellow blazer is so me! It's a size 4 which is great so its not enormously big yet roomy enough to pull off a masculine look.

I put together a potential outfit for my new find

Talk about a diamond in the rough! This was hidden in a sea of blouses and I am so happy I took the time to find it!

I love the delicate trimming around the collar. Its beautiful and dainty.

This is so feminine and bright that I just couldn't pass it up. Love it!

Chain Reaction

So I realized that I have a few pics that I haven't downloaded from my camera. I know, no excuse technology couldn't get any easier versus the old film days. Anyhoo, you can definitely tell this was taken before the snow because its a blizzard outside now!

I know there's a lot of pics but I can't rule out the runners up v.s. the favs, plus I was never good at editing down photos anyway.

Much thanks to my hubby for taking my pics! Even on crucial football Sundays.lol

Have a great weekend!

Two fingers and I'm out... Peaceee
