Vacation Wrap Up: 8.30.12

Untitled Fully energized with vitamin D, I am just coming down from my vacation high and it's probably a good thing since I haven't been inspired to type a single character on my blog since. I recently flew in yesterday without any bruises or horror stories from Hurricane Isaac (thank you Lord!). I had a blast from prepping for our travels to our stay and leisure time spent there. I challenged myself to put off social media for the week to really take a mental break and escape the pressure from updating Twitter, Facebook and Instagram but I think I scaled back rather than eliminated my time spent on the internet-especially during the downtime that I had after dinning out and being too full to do anything else or by passing the time away under a shaded umbrella by the poolside.

I actually went for a couple's wedding which was beautifully celebrated with blue skies and enough laughs to last a lifetime. I couldn't ask for a more perfect day for a beautiful couple. Here are a few pics that I pieced together of the happy moments of my vacation!

Enjoy^_^

I made this dress more than 5 years ago and I still love it because of the colours and its form fitting look. Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled

Prepping for a wedding or any special occasion makes the event that much more exciting:D Untitled

After soaking up some sun rays, we used the rainy days from hurricane Isaac to do some shopping. I love shopping in a comfortable outfit-one that is not overly pieced together and easy on the eyes and heels^_^

My love for window displays will never dissipate.... I love visuals too much after doing it for so many years.

No one should ever pass up a Godiva stop for a little taste of heaven. We treated ourselves with chocolate covered strawberries, truffles and other chocolate goodies.

This is one of the last outfits that I ended up wearing on the trip, but as a person who loves clothes I have to say that I probably packed way too many clothes because I still had clothes I hadn't worn!

My First Pedicure [seriously]

Yea you read the title right. Yesterday I got my first pedicure of my life! I know kinda crazy, I know but there is a perfectly good explanation for my toes being a virgin to the nail spa.

First-I loveeeee painting my nails!! There's nothing more exhilarating than getting all of your favorite colours together to create some polish magic with cool patterns and designs done exclusively by me! I go into stores to buy colours that I already have because you never can have too many.

Secondly, I'm semi sort of ticklish so the thought of anyone touching my feet not only makes me squirm but it's kinda weird...it just doesn't seem right somehow.

Thirdly (is that even a word?) Believe it or not I'm kinda frugal. And when I say kinda I mean BIG TIME. A pedicure costs $25 and people usually get them what every week? Let's say every two weeks. That's $50/month and $600/year!! Wait is my math right?! Yea I'm pretty sure. Even though honestly I could afford it, being a numbers person and calculating that amount just doesn't add up for me.

And lastly, how could I watch all of the DIY YouTube videos and not be inspired! The Pinterest boards alone coupled with Instagram make me drool over colour combinations and latest nail trends for the season. It would take all the joy out of it if I had to sit in a room with acrylic smells oozing from the walls.

But in order to see what the hype was all about [and to prep for my trip to Florida] I braved it out and went all by myself. HUGE mistake! With the TV blaring, it seemed way too quiet even with the nail technicians talking amongst themselves. I was so tempted to find a language translator app (but whatever). With my GQ in hand I peaked over my mag ever so nervously and avoided looking at any of the tools as if I was in the dentist office. The real reason I wanted a pedicure was to get gel nails. I've seen a few people with the highly gloss painted nails & toes and it just looks so yummy like candy paint on a big body car. I got hot pink with sparkles which looks awesome! I watched the lady meticulously as she did my nails and I'm convinced I can do it myself. So I'm seriously thinking of buying one of those light dryer thingys so I can do it at home. I wonder if it's expensive...hmmmm I mean over the course of time it would pay for itself wouldn't it? Back to the calculations I go!

Weekend Wrap-Up Recap 8.20.12

There was nothing but laughter, love and unity that filled my weekend which made it the best weekend of the summer. I kicked off the festivities on Saturday afternoon by celebrating a friend's birthday that brought way too many laughs than I could handle and all the vegetarian, caribbean and 'you name it' food you can think of (just thinking about the food is making me wish I had some right now) but it was literally the perfect day to sit back to be thankful and blessed.

Later on that night, I think there may have been a party at my house without me even knowing it-people flowed in and out until 2 a.m. like no body's business and my long time friend and brother from another mother, Moe stopped by the house to ignite memories that kept us reminiscing throughout the night. We talked about our camping days, nicknames for each other and all the other inside jokes that no one else would understand unless you were part of our circle while growing up. Reuniting with old friends does something to your soul. All of the years spent apart are erased while reflecting on what we did 'way back then.' There were some other things I ended up doing on Sunday as well but my memory is turning to mush as this is the third night going to bed past 2 a.m. so I should definitely stop while I'm ahead ^_^
I made this turban at the last minute after realizing that I was too lazy to do my half done hair...plus it helped since I was having a bad hair day. lol

Love, laughter and memories to go around for days. Thanks Moe for making our weekend!

Double Take: 1 Skirt, 2 Looks

Double Take: 1 Skirt, 2 Looks
Yesterday the unthinkable occurred....I got into my car and drove to the the fabric store on my free time (!!!) It was awesome!! Glorious knits, silks and trim piled high to the ceiling once I stepped foot into my local piece of heaven. I decided to stop in to look for some fabric to create drapes for my window, but I complete went off track after seeing the Halloween fabric toward the front of the store. My level of excitement grew even more. For starters, no I'm not big into making costumes for little kids-my nieces are pretty much at the point where they need something purchased from the store rather than hand made but I was elated to see the Halloween fabric because I find the rarest and best finds once a year around this time of year. Gold lame fabric (that really shiny fabric that lays on your skin like liquid gold) is in HUGE abundance and the latex neon coloured fabric run rampant, partly because all of the super-hero costumes that mothers are often imitating. Anyhoo, I ended up buying the material for my window along with 3 yards of this beautiful sheer fabric to make a maxi skirt like the one above. I'll definitely be doing a DIY video on that.

On to today's outfit! I was inspired from all the fabric that I saw yesterday and ever since I've been dreaming of sheer maxi skirts to wear on my trip to Florida next week. The weather here has drastically dropped so I couldn't make up my mind as to which dreamy outfit I would actually wear given the weather conditions. This skirt can easily be worn in the cooler months with a rocker edge paired with a cropped knit top or in the breeze summer months with a light airy feel as well.

Which style do you see yourself in??
