Vacation Wrap Up: 8.30.12

Untitled Fully energized with vitamin D, I am just coming down from my vacation high and it's probably a good thing since I haven't been inspired to type a single character on my blog since. I recently flew in yesterday without any bruises or horror stories from Hurricane Isaac (thank you Lord!). I had a blast from prepping for our travels to our stay and leisure time spent there. I challenged myself to put off social media for the week to really take a mental break and escape the pressure from updating Twitter, Facebook and Instagram but I think I scaled back rather than eliminated my time spent on the internet-especially during the downtime that I had after dinning out and being too full to do anything else or by passing the time away under a shaded umbrella by the poolside.

I actually went for a couple's wedding which was beautifully celebrated with blue skies and enough laughs to last a lifetime. I couldn't ask for a more perfect day for a beautiful couple. Here are a few pics that I pieced together of the happy moments of my vacation!

Enjoy^_^

Must-have travel item for the trip...Vogue so heavy it almost didn't make it as my carry on ^_^

I made this dress more than 5 years ago and I still love it because of the colours and its form fitting look. Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled

Prepping for a wedding or any special occasion makes the event that much more exciting:D Untitled

After soaking up some sun rays, we used the rainy days from hurricane Isaac to do some shopping. I love shopping in a comfortable outfit-one that is not overly pieced together and easy on the eyes and heels^_^

My love for window displays will never dissipate.... I love visuals too much after doing it for so many years.

No one should ever pass up a Godiva stop for a little taste of heaven. We treated ourselves with chocolate covered strawberries, truffles and other chocolate goodies.

This is one of the last outfits that I ended up wearing on the trip, but as a person who loves clothes I have to say that I probably packed way too many clothes because I still had clothes I hadn't worn!

Rihanna Covers VOGUE

I scanned this month's issue of VOGUE today while I was grocery shopping and instantly caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye of the raggedy ann red hair-without a doubt it was Rihanna. I ended up unloading the groceries onto the conveyor belt and was unable to look at her spread. 5 second readings at the cash register is the story of my life.

Badda bing, badda BOOM! Vogue finally got it right by putting Rihanna on the cover of their shape issue. Although, she kinda reminds me of a browner version of The Little Mermaid and Jessica Rabbit wrapped up into one. Doesn't she? Maybe I'm just regressing back to my child hood memories...

I never checked out her spread until I saw Sewing Stardom's video about Rihanna's spread in Vogue. How could I forget? Unpacking the groceries got me side tracked... Anyhoo, here's to Ri-Ri. Luv her style. Oh, wait before you look at the pics...I have one or two things to say. Rihanna is a fashion risk taker. We know this because she is always willing to push the limits of style and because of this she remains in the forefront of her peers such as Ciara, Kerri Hilson, etc which (might I add) all have the same stylist. Why am I mentioning this in the first place? Because style is about being comfortable in your own skin. And because of this she's taken her career to another level. I believe Rihanna gives her stylist, Mariel Haenn, very little restrictions as to what she is willing to wear as opposed to some women who have to see another person wearing it before daring to try it on themselves (who else would have rocked the Alexandre Vauthier white jacket in her "Hard" video ft. Jeezy?) I DEFINITELY would without hesitation. Rihanna has accredited her career not only to her music but to her image as a fashion icon to today's youth. I stress today's youth because Grace Jones' style has certainly been reincarnated through the young songstress. But I digress.

Lady Gaga Spread in Vogue 2011

Born this Way... in technicolor jump suits, pink wigs, and powered faces, Lady Gaga really plays up the Marie Antoinette look in this shoot. But did you expect anything less? A few weeks ago I posted an entry about Lady Gaga being on the front cover of Vogue but I had to revisit the issue and post her shoot. I like people who are willing to push the boundaries of fashion and take chances..it makes everything so much more visually appealing and refreshing instead of the typical overly sexy outfits that people have been recycling for years. She may not be doing anything new apart from her predecessor's Grace Jones, Madonna, or any other artist but who else do we have left? I take that back, Rihanna does let her stylist do her job- quite well might I add. But I digress. Gaga is the perfect client to style...I just wish she was shot with a tea cup in hand and her pinkie up with little monsters surrounding her. Predictable? Maybe. But appropriate. Lady Gaga Covers VOGUE

Well what do we have here?? Lady Gaga does it again. The March issue of Vogue is graced by none other than Mama Monster herself-only in the fashion world's most important "go to" book of them all..nothing major *shurgs* Of course its major! Gaga isn't the stereotypical beauty that you would normally find on the cover of this prestigious magazine. There's no wind machine blowing luscious locks on this cover...no..not even. It's Gaga and she's bringing it. She may not fit into everyone's standard of beauty but her style is undeniable and as versatile as any other.

On the cover, she rocks a bowl-shape hair cut in hot pink with a grecian dress slightly cascading over her couture pose with a dark plum lip. Oh yea Gaga.. I'm feeling this one.  According to Gaga Daily, the photos for the issue were shot in November at the Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, by legendary photographer Mario Testino.

If she sold 5.8 million copies of her sophomore album The Fame Monster, I can't imagine how fast this coveted magazine will fly off of the shelves when it debuts. I'm sure this will be a collectors item but the question is are you convinced enough to go Gaga for this issue??
